Col Navjit Singh Sandhu


Col Navjit Singh Sandhu started playing riding and playing polo as a 15 year old. He honed his skills in equestrian sports and polo at the junior levels excelling at the Junior national Championships in all equestrian disciplines and in Polo. He joined the National Defense Academy as a cadet in 1991 and subsequently was commissioned into the 61st Cavalry, one of the few Horsed cavalry Regiments of the world. He has been playing Polo in India and abroad for over twenty five years and has been associated with the sport as a player, coach and an administrator at various levels.

International Polo. Participated in the following international Polo tournaments:-
  * Seven Nation Golden Jubilee International Polo Championship conducted at Delhi & Jaipur in Oct 1997. (Winners)
  * FIP World Polo Championships Zonal Playoff at Jaipur in Sep 2000 beating Pakistan in the Finals. (Winners)
  * FIP World Cup Finals at Melbourne-Australia in 2001. (Participated)
  * FIP World Cup Zonal Play Offs at Pakistan in 2003. (Third)
  * Indo-Pak Punjab Games at Patiala in 2004. (Winners)
  * International Military Polo Tournament at Abuja, Nigeria in 2006. (Captain) (Winners)
  * International Military Polo Tournament at Jaipur in 2007. (Captain) (Winners)
  * India vs New Zealand at Delhi in 2007. (Winners)
  * India vs England - (Asia Cup) at England in 2008. (Captain) (Runners Up)
  * Visit of Indian Polo Team to Zambia in Jul 2011. (Captain)
  * Visit of Indian Polo Team to South Africa in Aug 2012. (Captain)

Col Navjit Singh Sandhu has been actively involved with the administration of the Indian Polo Association as its Hony Secretary in the past. His charter included the development of Polo pan India, conduct of coaching for young players , exposure and development of the sport in new centers, development and upgradation of training facilities, interaction with the International Polo Federation, raising of finances and sponsorship, conduct of IPA tournaments as the Junior National Championship and the National Polo Championship, conduct International tournaments, selection, training and participation of the National polo team in International tournaments and World Championship and the overall conduct of business of the Indian Polo Association.

He has been a steward of the IPA actively involved with the administration, conduct, finances and development of the sport besides serving on various committees as the Handicapping committee, finance committee, rules committee, the disciplinary committee and the selection committee.

He has been and is committee member of the FIP (International Polo Federation). He has served as a member of the development committee of the FIP and is currently a member of the Ambassadors Cup committee. In recognition of the service and support to Polo internationally, he was nominated as a FIP Ambassador.
